Half a Cow & Jam!

A busy few days. Thursday it was off to Laramie to our local Butcher's Block to collect our half a cow! Every year we buy half a cow from a friend of mine, Cindy (who I used to help make fences and do hay with on Jean's Ranch in Centennial) and each year we buy half a cow from her ranch . Grass fed, natural free range Angus beef! The Butcher's block process and package and freeze it for us with how I want it cut - steaks, joints, stew meat and ground plus liver & kidney - which he normally throws in more as alot of people don't keep those parts! We bought a chest freezer specifically for this! I then walked up into the rocks and gave the cow bones to our bobcats , as my dogs cannot eat bones , well they love them but I end up washing carpets afterwards! So Alan played tetris and I left out 4 packs of ground beef and 2 stew (plus the dogs get a pack a week or so for me to cook up , add rice, to add to their dried food too) Friday - I made 20 homemade beef and bacon burgers for Alan - with Dijon, garlic & ketchup. These have become quite infamous now with his friends! Saturday - I bought 4 punnets of strawberries for a buck a pound - so I made strawberry jam! and after that I made pie filling of stew beef, carrots, onion , garlic and mushroom! Sunday - I made 16 big mini pies! :)
