Finally we are getting the wood stove in place. It has been sitting in the garage for years now .
First step was remove the gas stove, cap everything off then Mike & Jodie started the task! First chipping out the old tile and then placing the board down into place and measuring where the stove would sit
Next day I had sorted out and chosen the tile to go down then it was all day of Mike and Jodie, cutting, sticking down and placing them in to the section. Mike also cut the border tiles and laid them down first before we worked out which tile would go where and what ones to use for the small shapes left over
Then two days later they came back and it was time to grout , a darkish gray color.
A few days later they came back, washed the tile again and then it was they enhanced it. Oh my wow!
Hopefully this weekend the stove will be put in - this has been the challenge so far as no one would do it (unless we bought the stove from them blah blah blah) one guy came out , real bad attitude and arrogant, so he wasn't going to get the job! Mike luckily found someone who would do it - a jolly uncle character so he'll be doing it. But as we have just had a 2ft snow dump he may not be able to, as the roof needs to clear and dry! so fingers crossed we can clear it off and he is able to come out
So this blog is a work in progress and I'll update it as its being done
Mike will do the trim after that's all done and sort out that annoying cable, remove the black pipe box from the last stove and get it all finished up
Xmas Alan will have a crew to go out most days and cut wood and then stack and store it under the deck ! and Ana and I will be baking and cooking!
So excited!
Update - it's all complete and looks fantastic. On friday (6th) I spent 2 hours clearing the roof. There was a snow dump the day before of about 8" of wet snow - which then melted and froze before settling. As most of you know I have a huge thing with heights and the highest I would stand on the ladder is the 3rd rung.. armed with a hospepipe I hooked up to the hot water and 2hrs later the section was clear - i got it just wide wide enough too - phew
Saturday morning, Jay arrived first, then Mike, Paul and Mitchell. Mike had to go off to another job he was doing so before he left it was get the stove in! had to take things apart to get it through the door and luckily Mike bought his dolly too .
It took Paul & Mitchell about 4hrs to get the stove in. longest part was the chimney . wow its massive and never seen a topper like it. Quite snazzy too
Jay was outside gathering branches and sawsawling them into kindling. So all ready to go.
Its looks fantastic.
Mike will be back next week sometime to finish off - trim, removing the old heatshield plate and hiding the tv cable!
Wood burning stove time!
